Record normal hours separately from exceptions

Start with the usual weekly schedule for each location. For an exception, record a full date, open or closed status, any time interval and the person who approved it. “Closed this Saturday” can become ambiguous when a screenshot is shared later. In our example, “14 November 2026: closed for stocktaking” is a clearer record. Specify whether the following day returns to the normal schedule rather than expecting visitors to infer it.

Study a real management example

The Google Business Profile special-hours guide handles holidays and temporary changes by date, and recommends confirming public-holiday hours even when unchanged. Our practical lesson is to use a dated exception rather than altering the normal week for a single-day change. Check the customer-facing result after saving. Do not assume an extended closure belongs to the same category; consult the current guide for its separate conditions.

List every place the website shows hours

A contact page, branch card, footer and appointment explanation may repeat the same information. Consider a shared source rather than maintaining each date independently. If that is impractical, create an explicit update checklist. In the stocktaking example, visits might stop while email support continues. Do not compress different services into one unexplained “closed” label. Publish only the services and operating times that the business has actually confirmed.

Compare visible copy with technical data

Google’s LocalBusiness documentation describes opening hours in structured data. Having markup does not prove the information is current. Give the developer a sample date to compare across customer-facing copy, the underlying hours data and the Google profile. A website edit should not be assumed to update the profile automatically. Verify whether those surfaces are connected and what an existing integration actually changes.

Assign checks for both start and expiry

Choose who checks the information before the exception begins. Afterwards, remove the expired notice or clearly identify it as historical. An English page must describe the same date and location; spelling out the month can avoid ambiguous numeric dates. Keep a change at one branch from spreading to every branch. The purpose is to give someone planning a visit an accurate answer, rather than to create more announcements.

Accept the workflow with a visit scenario

Ask a participant whether they could visit the example showroom on 14 November. Record whether the website and map listing communicate the same answer, using a test environment without changing real business hours. Also review the appearance after the date has passed. Put this maintenance responsibility into the website scope. Our branch page guide separately covers directions and finding the correct entrance.

Frequently asked questions

Does updating the website also change Google hours?

Do not assume so. Check both surfaces and verify the fields covered by any existing integration.

Is “closed for the holiday” enough?

A complete date, location and explanation of the affected service are clearer. Also decide when the notice will be removed.
